TODAY KAJOL TURNS 36

TODAY, Kajol Devgan turns 36, who born on 5th August, 1974, better known as simply Kajol, is an Indian film actress appearing in Hindi films. She is regarded as one of India's most successful female actors.

Kajol made her acting debut in the film Bekhudi (1992) and had her first commercial success with her second film Baazigar (1993) opposite Shahrukh Khan, with whom she would act in such popular movies as Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and My Name is Khan (2010). Her performances in all four of these films were praised and earned her Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. After shooting for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001, she took a sabbatical from full-time acting for five years. She made a comeback with Kunal Kohli's Fanaa (2006), for which she received another Best Actress Award at the Filmfare. Along with her late aunt Nutan, Kajol holds the record for most Best Actress wins at the Filmfare Awards, with five. In 2011, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian Cinema. She is married to fellow Indian actor Ajay Devgn.[

FAMILY AND BACKGROUND:-

Kajol was born in Mumbai of Bengali-Marathi descent. Her mother Tanuja is an actress, while her late father Shomu Mukherjee was a film director and producer. Her maternal aunt is the late actress Nutan, with whom she holds the record for the most wins (five times) of the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and her maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth and great grandmother Rattan Bai had both been involved in Hindi cinema.

Her paternal uncles are film producers; Joy Mukherjee and Deb Mukherjee. Kajol's paternal grandfather, Sashadhar Mukherjee, was a filmmaker. His wife Satirani Devi, Kajol's paternal grandmother, was the sister of Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Kajol's cousins Rani Mukerji, Sharbani Mukherjee and Mohnish Behl are also Bollywood actors; whereas her cousin Ayan Mukerji is a director. Kajol's younger sister Tanisha Mukherjee is also an actress.

Kajol married Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn on February 24, 1999. The couple have 2 children, a daughter named Nysa (born in 2003) and a son named Yug (born in 2010).

On April 10, 2008, Kajol's father died after suffering from a cardiac arrest. His funeral was held the same day and was attended by other Bollywood personalities.

CAREER:-

Kajol left her school St. Josephs convent at Panchgani and started her career at the age of seventeen. Her debut film was 1992's Bekhudi, which was a box office failure. In 1993, she shot to fame with her second film, Abbas-Mustan's thriller Baazigar. The film saw her co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan, with whom she later went on to make a popular pairing in a number of films, all of which were box office successes.

Her first release in 1994, Udhaar Ki Zindagi, was a box-office failure, but her performance in the film won the BFJA Best Actress Award. She next starred in her first collaboration with Yash Raj Films, the romantic drama Yeh Dillagi (1994). Her performance as Sapna, a strong dreamy girl who leaves her paternal home to make her own life in the big city, earned her a first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

In 1995 Kajol appeared in the two biggest hits of the year in India. Her first release was Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun. The film, which dealt with reincarnation, became the second-highest grossing film of the year. While her next three releases that year failed commercially, her last release, Aditya Chopra's directorial debut, the romance Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, was not only the biggest hit of that year, but one of Hindi cinema's most successful films. In 2008, the film entered its twelfth year in Mumbai theaters, grossing over 12 billion rupees overall, making it one of the biggest blockbusters in Bollywood. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was also a major critical success; it won ten Filmfare Awards, and Kajol's performance as a young NRI who falls for Shahrukh Khan's character was praised, earning her a first Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In 2005, Indiatimes Movies ranked the movie amongst the 25 Must See Bollywood Films, citing it as a "trendsetter of sorts". In that same year's retrospective review by Rediff, Raja Sen stated "Aditya [Chopra] ... wisely picked Kajol to play Simran, the real-as-life actress bringing warmth and credulity to the initially prudish and reluctant Simran. Not to mention the on-screen chemistry that has become the stuff of legend."

Kajol had only one release in 1996, Bambai Ka Babu, opposite Saif Ali Khan, which was a box office failure. In 1997, Kajol starred in Gupt: The Hidden Truth. Co-starring actors Bobby Deol and Manisha Koirala, the film was one of the highest grossing films of that year. Apart from that, her performance was a significant development for female actors in Bollywood; she was the first female actor to win the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role. Her next film release that year was Hameshaa. Like Karan Arjun, the film dealt with reincarnation, but unlike the latter, it failed at the box office. She next starred in her first Tamil film, Minsaara Kanavu. Her final release of that year was the romantic-comedy Ishq, where she was paired with her then-future husband Ajay Devgan. It performed well at the box office.

Kajol had further success in 1998, as she was the main lead starred in three of the year's biggest hits. She first starred opposite Salman Khan in the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. The film was the fourth highest grossing film of the year. Her next release, Dushman alongside Sanjay Dutt, did moderately well at the box office. She had a double role in the film, and won her first Star Screen Award for Best Actress for her performance. She next starred opposite Ajay Devgan in the romance Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, which was the second biggest hit of that year. However, her biggest success that year came with her final release, Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which paired her again with Shahrukh Khan and went on to become the biggest hit of the year in both India and overseas. She played the role of Anjali, a young college student who is secretly in love with her closest friend, and many years after breaking contact meets him again after the death of his wife. She won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance.

Kajol's first release in 1999 was the drama film Dil Kya Kare. She played the supporting role of Nandita Rai, which was well received. She had a hit with her second release, the family drama Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. Starring alongside Anil Kapoor, Kajol received another Best Actress nomination at the Filmfare. She had an unsuccessful year in 2000, as her only release that year, Raju Chacha went unnoticed.

Kajol had only two films released in 2001. She first played a double role in the drama Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, which was a commercial failure. However, she reinvented her success in her second venture with Karan Johar, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which was a major grosser in India and the top-grossing Indian production of all-time in the overseas market until 2006. Kajol's role was that of Anjali, a young Punjabi woman from Delhi's market Chandni Chowk, who falls for the rich Rahul, played by Shahrukh Khan. Her comic-dramatic performance won her several awards, including her third Filmfare Best Actress Award and her second Star Screen Award for Best Actress. Critic Taran Adarsh wrote of her performance in the film, "Kajol is first-rate in the role of a typical Chandni Chowk lass. Her Punjabi dialect will win her immense praise." The Hindu wrote, "Kajol -- in only her second appearance this year, the first one being in a double role in ``Kajol ... steals the thunder from under very high noses indeed. With her precise timing and subtle lingering expression, she is a delight all the way." This was Kajol's last collaboration with Khan until they would be cast again by Johar as a lead pair in early 2010.

Following the success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kajol took a sabbatical from full-time acting for five years. She gave birth to her daughter Nysa in 2003. She made a successful comeback in 2006 with Kunal Kohli's drama Fanaa, one of the highest grossing films of the year. Portraying a blind Kashmiri girl who falls in love with a Kashmiri terrorist (played by Aamir Khan) in the film, she won her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award.

U, Me aur Hum, which released on 11 April 2008, marked her husband Ajay Devgan's directorial debut. For her performance as an Alzheimer's patient in the film, she received her tenth Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination. Raja Sen wrote in his review, "... Kajol ... can span through happy-breezy with her eyes closed, and so the first half doesn't even pose her a challenge, but when Alzheimer's strikes Piya and she begins to forget all that matters in her life, Kajol raises the bar strikingly high."

Kajol was recently seen alongside Shahrukh Khan in Karan Johar's drama My Name Is Khan, which is based on a true story, against the backdrop of perceptions on Islam post 11 September. Filming commenced in December 2008 in Los Angeles and ended in October 2009. Upon its release in February 2010, the film received mainly positive reviews from critics and became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in the overseas market. Kajol's portrayal of Mandira, a divorced single mother who marries a Muslim autistic man was praised by critics, with Rajeev Masand writing, "Bringing emotional depth to what is essentially Rizwan's story, Kajol is immensely likeable as Mandira, using her eyes to convey volumes, topping the performance off with a powerful breakdown scene that literally puts her through the wringer." Kajol won her fifth Best Actress award at the Filmfare, a record which she shares with her late aunt, actress Nutan. She next starred alongside Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in We Are Family, an Indian adaptation of the Hollywood movie Stepmom (1998). Directed by Siddharth Malhotra, Hindustan Times critic Mayank Shekhar stated, "The premise is stuff dry tissues are made for. Yet, the pathos here is produced not from moments, but from performances alone: a stunning Kajol’s in particular. She appears superior to Susan Sarandon, I suspect." Her next film, Toonpur Ka Superhero, a live-action/animated film, was released in December 2010

TODAY KISHORE KUMAR TURNS, 82

TODAY, Kishore Kumar  could had turn to 82, if he had been alive today who born on 4th August,1929 was an Indian film playback singer and an actor who also worked as lyricist, composer, producer, director, screenwriter and scriptwriter. Kishore Kumar sang in many Indian languages including Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Oriya. He was the winner of 8 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer and holds the record for most number of Filmfare Awards won for that category.

EARLY LIFE:-

Kishore Kumar was born into the Bengali Brahmin Ganguly family in Khandwa, Central Provinces and Berar (now in Madhya Pradesh) as Abhas Kumar Ganguly. His father Kunjalal Ganguly (Gangopadhya) was a lawyer. His mother Gouri Devi came from a wealthy Bengali family. Kishore was the youngest of four siblings, the other three being Ashok Kumar (the eldest), Sati Devi, and Anoop Kumar.

While Kishore was still a child, Ashok Kumar became a Bollywood actor. (Later, Anoop Kumar also ventured into cinema with the help of Ashok Kumar). Spending time with his brothers, Kishore also started to take a keen interest in movies and music. He became a fan of singer-actor Kundan Lal Saigal, whom he considered his guru, and tried to follow Saigal's singing style.

CAREER:-

After Ashok Kumar became a Bollywood star, the Ganguly family used to visit Bombay regularly. Abhas Kumar changed his name to Kishore Kumar and started his cinema career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies, where his brother worked. His first film as an actor was Shikari (1946), in which Ashok Kumar played the lead role. Music director Khemchand Prakash gave him a chance to sing the song Marne ki duayen kyon mangu for the film Ziddi (1948). After this, Kishore Kumar got many other assignments, but he was not very serious about a film career. In 1949, he decided to settle in Mumbai.

Kishore Kumar played hero in the Bombay Talkies film Andolan (1951), directed by Phani Majumdar. Although Kishore Kumar got some assignments as an actor with help of his brother, he was more interested in becoming a singer. He was not interested in acting, but his elder brother Ashok Kumar wanted him to be an actor like himself.

He starred in Bimal Roy's Naukri (1954) and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's directorial debut Musafir (1957). Salil Chowdhury, the music director for Naukri was initially dismissive of him as a singer, when he came to know that Kishore Kumar didn't have any formal training in music. However, after hearing his voice, he gave him the song Chhota sa ghar hoga, which was supposed to be sung by Hemant Kumar.

Kishore Kumar starred in films New Delhi (1957), Aasha (1957), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Half Ticket (1962), and Padosan (1968). Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, his home production, starred the three Ganguly brothers, and Madhubala. The film is about romance between a city girl (Madhubala) and a car mechanic (Kishore Kumar), with a subplot involving brothers.

Music director S. D. Burman is credited with spotting Kishore Kumar's talent as a singer, and advancing his singing career. During the making of Mashaal (1950), Burman visited Ashok Kumar's house, where he heard Kishore imitating K. L. Saigal. He complimented Kishore, but also told him that he should develop a style of his own, instead of copying Saigal. Kishore Kumar did not have a formal training in music. He kept Burman's advice in mind, and eventually developed his own style of singing, which featured the yodeling that he had heard on some records of Jimmie Rodgers bought by his brother Anoop Kumar.

S. D. Burman recorded with Kishore for Dev Anand's Munimji (1954), Taxi Driver (1954), House No. 44 (1955), Funtoosh (1956), Nau Do Gyarah (1957), Paying Guest (1957), Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), Prem Pujari (1970), and Tere Mere Sapne (1971). He also composed music for Kishore Kumar's home production Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). Some of their initial films included the songs Maana Janaab Ne Pukara Nahin from Paying Guest, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), Ai Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa from Funtoosh, and Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si and Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958).[6] Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar performed duets composed by S. D. Burman including Chhod Do Aanchal from Paying Guest (1957), Ankhon Mein Kya Ji from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka and Paanch Rupaiya Baara Aana from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Chhedo Na Meri Zulfein from Ganga Ki Lahren (1964), and Arre Yaar Meri Tum Bhi Ho Gajab from [Teen Devian|Teen Deviyan] (1965).

C. Ramchandra was another music director who recognized Kishore Kumar's talent as a singer.[4] and their collaborations include Eena Meena Deeka from Aasha (1957). Kishore Kumar's work includes, Nakhrewaali from New Delhi (1956) by Shankar Jaikishan, and C.A.T. Cat Maane Billi and Hum To Mohabbat Karega from Dilli Ka Thug (1958) by Ravi.

Kishore Kumar produced, directed, and acted in the film Jhumroo (1961). He wrote the lyrics for the title song, Main Hoon Jhumroo, and composed music for all the songs in the film. Later, he produced and directed the film Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein (1964). He also wrote the script and composed music for the film. The film is based on the relationship between a father (Kishore Kumar), and his deaf and mute son (played by his real-life son, Amit Kumar). He made another two films called Door Ka Rahi (1971) and Door Waadiyon Mein Kahin (1980).

In the 1960s, as an actor, Kishore Kumar built up a notoriety for coming late for the shootings, or bunking them altogether.[7] His films flopped frequently, and he also landed in income tax trouble.[3] As a singer, his work in this period includes Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai from Manmauji (1961), Gaata Rahe Mera Dil from Guide (1965), and Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara from Jewel Thief (1967).

In the late 1960s, Rahul Dev Burman worked together on the soundtrack of the film Padosan (1968), in which Kishore Kumar sang the songs Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein and Kehna Hai. Padosan was a comedy film starring Kishore Kumar as a dramatist-musician, Mehmood as a Carnatic music and dance teacher, and Sunil Dutt as a simpleton named Bhola. Kishore Kumar's character in the film was inspired by the personality of Kishore's own uncle, Dhananjay Bannerjee (a classical singer).[2] The highlight of the film was a musical, comical duel between Kishore Kumar-Sunil Dutt and Mehmood, Ek Chatur Nar Karke Singaar.

PERSONAL LIFE:-

Kishore Kumar married four times. His first wife was Ruma Guha Thakurta aka Ruma Ghosh. Their marriage lasted from 1950 to 1958. Kishore's second wife was actress Madhubala, who had worked with him on many films including his home production Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). When Kishore Kumar proposed to her, Madhubala was sick and was planning to go to London for treatment. At this time, she didn't know that she had a ventricular septal defect, and her father wanted her to wait and consult the London doctors first. Nevertheless, Madhubala married Kishore in 1960. Madhubala was a Muslim, and the two had a civil marriage. Kishore converted to Islam and took the name Karim Abdul.

The doctors in London told Madhubala that she would not live for long. The marriage lasted for nine years, and ended with Madhubala's death on 23 February 1969. Kishore Kumar's third marriage was to Yogeeta Bali, and lasted from 1976 to 4 August 1978. Kishore was married to Leena Chandavarkar from 1980 until his death.

Kishore Kumar sired two sons, Amit Kumar (playback singer) with Ruma, and Sumit Kumar with Leena Chandavarkar.

Kumar is said to have been paranoid about not being paid. During recordings, he would sing only after his secretary confirmed that the producer had made the payment. Once, when he discovered that his dues hadn't been fully paid, he landed up for shooting with make-up on only one side of his face. When the director questioned him, he replied "Aadha paisa to aadha make-up." (Half make-up for half payment). On the sets of Bhai Bhai, Kishore Kumar refused to act because the director M V Raman owed him five thousand rupees. Ashok Kumar persuaded him to do the scene. But, when the shooting started, he walked across the floor and, each time he walked a few places, he said, Paanch Hazzar Rupaiya (five thousand rupees) and did a somersault. After he reached the end of the floor, he went out of the studio, jumped into his car, and ordered his driver Abdul to drive away. On another occasion, when producer R. C. Talwar did not pay his dues in spite of repeated reminders, Kishore turned up at Talwar's residence one morning and started shouting "Hey Talwar, de de mere aath hazaar" ("Hey Talwar, give me my eight thousand"). He did this every morning until Talwar paid him.

The film Anand (1971) was originally supposed to star Kishore Kumar and Mehmood Ali in the lead. Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the director of the film, was asked to meet Kishore Kumar to discuss the project. However, when he went to Kishore Kumar's house, he was driven away by the gatekeeper due to a misunderstanding. Kishore Kumar (himself a Bengali) hadn't been paid for a stage show organized by another Bengali man, and had instructed his gatekeeper to drive away this "Bengali", if he ever visited the house. When Hrishikesh Mukherjee (also a Bengali) went to Kishore Kumar's house, the gatekeeper drove him away, mistaking him for the "Bengali" that Kishore Kumar had asked him to drive away. Consequently, Mehmood had to leave the film as well, and new actors (Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan) were signed up for the film.

In spite of his "no money, no work" principle, sometimes Kishore Kumar recorded for free even when the producers were willing to pay. Such films include those produced by Rajesh Khanna and Danny Denzongpa. On one occasion, Kishore Kumar helped actor-turned-producer Bipin Gupta, by giving him Rs. 20,000 for the film Dal Mein Kala (1964). When actor Arun Kumar Mukherjee died, Kishore Kumar regularly sent money to his family in Bhagalpur. Mukherjee was one of the first persons to appreciate Kishore's singing talent.

Many journalists and writers have written about Kishore Kumar's seemingly eccentric behavior. Kishore Kumar had put a "Beware of Kishore" sign at the door of his Warden Road flat, where he stayed for some time while his bungalow was being done up. Once, producer-director H. S. Rawail, who owed him some money, visited his flat to pay the dues. Kishore Kumar took the money, and when Rawail offered to shake hands with him, he reportedly put Rawail's hand in his mouth, bit it, and asked "Didn’t you see the sign?". Rawail laughed off the incident and left quickly. Once, when a reporter made a comment about how lonely he must be, Kishore Kumar took her to his garden. He then named some of the trees in his garden, and introduced them to the reporter as his closest friends.

According to another reported incident, once Kishore Kumar was to record a song for producer-director G. P. Sippy. As Sippy approached his bungalow, he saw Kishore going out in his car. Sippy pleaded him to stop his car, but Kishore only increased the speed of his car. Sippy chased him to Madh Island, where Kishore Kumar finally stopped his car near the ruined Madh Fort. When Sippy questioned his strange behavior, Kishore Kumar refused to recognize or talk to him and threatened to call police. Sippy had to return. Next morning, Kishore Kumar reported for the recording. An angry Sippy questioned him about his behavior on the previous day. However, Kishore Kumar insisted that Sippy must have seen a dream, and claimed that he was in Khandwa on the previous day.

Once, a producer went to court to get a decree that Kishore Kumar must follow the director's orders. As a consequence, Kishore Kumar obeyed the director to the letter. He refused to alight from his car until the director ordered him to do so. Once, after a car scene in Mumbai, he drove on till Khandala because the director forgot to say "Cut". In the 1960s, a financier named Kalidas Batvabbal, patently disgusted with Kishore Kumar's alleged lack of cooperation during the shooting of Half Ticket, gave him away to the income tax authorities. Kishore had to face a raid at his house. Later, Kishore invited Batvabbal home, tricked him by asking him to enter a cupboard for a "chat" and locked him inside. He unlocked Batvabbal after two hours and told him "Don’t ever come to my house again."

This adds to her list of controversies which range from her controversial stay in ‘Big Boss’, her walking out of ‘Nach Baliye’ in a huff, her infamous romance, breakup and then patchup with Abhishek Avasthi, her kiss with Mika Singh, her fake promises on ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’ and last but not the least the very controversial blunders she made during ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’.

MINISSHA LAMBA - "WANTED TO BE A WAR JOURNALIST"

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba recently visited Kolkata to promote the new entertainment channel from UTV group called UTV STARS. Our correspondent caught up with her after the event for an informal chat.

How do you feel about UTV stars?

I think it's going to be great. I think we are going to come a lot closer to the people. Our lives are not really that extraordinary so half the things we tell to the press are made up. I think people are going to know about our really boring lives. I believe they will get to know us better.

Do you think there will be privacy issues?

Well our media still has a lot of respect for privacy and there is a great ethic code still present. Compared to the west we have a lot more privacy. So I don't think there'll be any such problem.

Recently you are part of BHEJA FRY 2 and the film didn't do so well in the box office. Why do you think that it was so?

Why do you say that? The film made money and the producer is malamal right now. He's yet to take me out to dinner as a treat.

Still what was the problem with the movie? It didn't attract a cult following like BHEJA FRY.

I guess we are used to a lot of cult movies right now and when BHEJA FRY came out it was a comedy and everybody was amazed by how it was shot in one room. Today for a film to become a cult film you need for it to be more than a comedy. It has to be a film that addresses society. It has to be a film that dealt about very serious things but the way that its shot has to be a cult film. It is very difficult for comedies to become cult films.

Tell us about your upcoming films.

There is a film coming called HUM TUM SHABANA. It's also comedy directed by Mr. Sagar Ballary. There is another film called JOKER and then there is ZILLA GHAZIABAD. HUM TUM SHABANA will release in September and the other two will release next year.

Tell us about your experience at Cannes film Festival. How was it?

It was beautiful and I think in the West they have really got the red carpet thing packed and they know how to do it beautifully out there. So to experience the original place of Cannes, which is the largest festival in the world, was great. But I would like to add that we in India also do the red carpet premieres very well. The only difference is that our journalists don't wear tuxedos behind the line which is the uniform there.

OM PURI TO PLAY THE ROLE OF "ANNA HAZARE"

There are rigid social systems that still dominate our modern society. The patriarchal Indian society has many unruly and unaddressed issues that lead to many crimes being committed.

The Khap panchayat in Indian villages follows one such custom, which has been killing young couples in the name of honour for years now.

Actor Om Puri and producer-director Ajai Sinha who feel strongly towards honour killing in our modern society have addressed this issue and voiced their opinion through their upcoming film ‘Khap’.

"Someone has to take the first step to end this. I am not waiting for somebody to wake up one day and that is why I have stood up against it," said Om to a daily.

Ajai, who`s the director of the film, said to a daily the primary motivation behind making this movie was not just success or monetary gain. "It`s for awareness among the youth. I have made this movie to make our country wake up and notice that while we might just fuss over everyday life, there are still customs like Khap in villages that don`t let people live their lives their way."

The film has got no political support because the topic is sensitive and no politician wants to be associated with it.

"It doesn`t matter if anyone supports us or not," said Om.

"We know that we have made the right movie. If Anna Hazare can stand alone, fight against corruption and make the nation realise the importance of it, I am sure we can do the same here. Even if we get support or not, the fight against the Khap panchayats from our side is on!" expressed Om to a tabloid.

The movie hits the film theatres this Friday with a hope that it`s the first step towards enlightening people towards this unaddressed issue of modern India.

SANJAY DUTT IN A NEW LOOK IN "CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR"

Ameesha Patel is ecstatic about her return on the big screen with Sanjay Dutt in CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR. Playing a Mumbai cop, Dutt is shown as someone who is a big fan of spies and is pretty well read on all the famous spy thrillers ever written in different parts of the world. In fact he has also been given a peculiar look that takes a huge departure from the suave persona that he carries and instead lands him in stupidity zone.

'Yeah, you will fall in love with Sanju's look in the film,' laughs Ameesha, 'When I saw him for the first time in that get up, I was amazed. It is so funny and comical. Hats off to Sanju for first agreeing to do a part like this and then managing to carry off his look so well. I am sure audience would have huge bouts of laughter just on seeing the kind of personality that Sanju is carrying in the film.'

While Ameesha seems to be quite happy talking about her much senior co-star here, one wonders what exactly does she get to do in the film. After all she has been missing on the scene for quite a while and one would expect nothing but something really remarkable from the pretty woman out here.

'Well, I am playing the character of Sona who gets caught in a scam by default. The only person in the world who believes her is Chatur and goes all out to help her out,' informs Ameesha, 'This leads to a series of funny incidents involving both of us. We have largely shot this film in South Africa, something that has also lent a visual appeal to the whole comical drama. Locations out there are so stunning.'

Also starring Anupam Kher, Gulshan Grover, Satish Kaushik and Suresh Menon in principal roles, CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR is directed by Ajay Chandok and releases all over on 19th August.

VIDYA AND NASEER TOGETHER IN "DIRTY PICTURE"

Director Milan Luthria recently ordered two truckloads of oranges for a sensational song sequence in Balaji's forthcoming THE DIRTY PICTURE.

The track was picturised on Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah and shot at Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City.

In true South style, over a thousand oranges were rolled down a hillside as the actors danced to choreographer Pony Verma's matkas and jhatkas - reminiscent of the erstwhile Jeetendra-starrer HIMMATWALA!

In THE DIRTY PICTURE, Naseer, who plays a South-Indian superstar, consented to dancing after 20 years, as it was in line with the requirements of his character. He was last seen dancing with Sonam in Rajiv Rai's smash hit, TRIDEV.

ABHINAY DEO - CREDITS AAMIR FOR "DELHI BELLY"

Director Abhinay Deo, who has delivered his first hit in the form of DELHI BELLY, feels the film wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for Aamir Khan.

Says the director, "DELHI BELLY wouldn't be a hit without Aamir Khan. I'll tell you the reason. Of course, the script was the same, but the contribution that Aamir has made is giving us a free hand. He trusted me 100% and told me to do the film the way I wanted. It was very easy for a producer to change the script which had so many abuses. But he didn't do any of that. Also, the way he backed and marketed the film, I don't think any producer would have been able to do."

But isn't this contrary to the interfering image of Aamir? 'I can't speak for other people. As far as I am concerned, I can't even believe that people call him interfering. I've never seen a person who is so dedicated to cinema and who gives 100 % freedom to the director and the creative team. He only puts his weight in the right places such as marketing,' states Abhinay.

And finally, setting the record straight about the sequel of DELHI BELLY, the director says, "There is no DELHI BELLY sequel as of now. It took six years to write DELHI BELLY. I don't know how long it will take to write its sequel. That was just a speculative news."

DEEPIKA PADUKONE BACK WITH "DESI BOYZ"

Deepika Padukone has had enough of playing non-glam part in a series of films. So when Prakash Jha, Ashutosh Gowariker and Pradeep Sarkar asked her to turn plain Jane for their respective films, Deepika didn't protest and willingly stepped into plain suit-salwars, sarees and T-shirts respectively while also keeping her make-up minimal. Even in BREAK KE BAAD which was set in Mauritius, director Danish Aslam wanted her to play the girl next door which means designer outfits were out of question.

However none of that would be the case in DESI BOYZ where Deepika would be back at being her glamorous best. After consciously staying away from that make-up kit for her AARAKSHAN, KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY and LAFANGEY PARINDEY, Deepika has sent an SOS to her styling team and made sure that she comes across as an ultra glam personality in her winter release DESI BOYZ.

"Deepika is doing everything possible to stand out in the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer," her friend continues, "Since the film is set in London, Deepika doesn't want to look out of place. Also, the film belongs to a genre that is quintessentially commercial and cool on eyes. During the shooting of her film, she summoned her stylist, costume designer, make-up staff and hair dressers to give her an ultra glam look. She also hit the gym hard to look in best shape and make heads turn. She knows that before this year comes to close; DESI BOYZ is one film that would present her in an altogether different light."

Deepika too admits that for DESI BOYZ she has gone through a definite make-over. "DESI BOYZ requires me to play glamorous and I have done whatever possible to make sure that I look my best," says Deepika who would next be seen in AARAKSHAN before she sizzles again in DESI BOYZ this winter.

RANG RASIYA WINS AWARD AT LONDON INDIAN FILM FEST

Director Ketan Mehta's RANG RASIYA (COLOURS OF PASSION) has won Audience Award at 2nd London Indian Film Festival (June 30 - July 12).

Audiences voted for their favorite films across 28 screenings during the festival.

The London Indian Film Festival is dedicated to expressing the drive and spirit of Indian independent cinema.

The festival opened with the World Premiere of Abhinay Deo's DELHI BELLY, produced by Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures and closed with the UK premiere of Srijit Mukherji's hit film AUTOGRAPH, both at the Cineworld Haymarket.

The closing night screening was preceded by a performance by chart-topping musician Raghu Dixit and followed by a lively Q&A with AUTOGRAPH star Nandana Sen, who also stars in RANG RASIYA.

Ketan Mehta's film RANG RASIYA was screened at the venues On 1st July 7.00 pm at V&A, 2nd July at 6.30 pm Watermans Cinema, 6th July 6.30 pm at Cineworld, Woodgereen, and 10th July 6.30pm at Cineworld, Feltham and 11th July 6.30 pm at Cineworld, Feltham.

Ketan Mehta is overwhelmed by the spectacular response.

He said: "It is like an honor to me to represent my country here. The feeling of being appreciated in other country among so many people is priceless. London Indian Film Festival that showcases Indian independent cinema is an exciting & timely initiative I support it whole heartedly."

"I am thrilled that my passion project has won the coveted audience award at the London Indian Film Festival. The premiere in the historic surroundings of the Victoria & Albert museum was wonderful and the interaction with London audiences was great. This award is the icing on the cake."

Festival Director Cary Sawhney said: "It's been an amazing year for us, in spite of the recession; many people have got behind our festival and really made it work, including our internationally known team.

"In just two years we are pleased to have brought to London some of India's top talent, including the World Premiere of DELHI BELLY from the Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan stable, which has become a global hit; to sold out Q&As with leading independent directors Anurag Kashyap, Rituparno Ghosh and the legendary Ketan Mehta, at some of London's top venues."

Ketan Mehta's film charts the life of the great Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma (played by Randeep Hooda), from his early days under the patronage of a King of Kerala, moving on to British Bombay in the late 1800s, where he makes his fortune.

Here the genius gives birth to Indian modern art and helps inspire the independence movement and the dawning of Indian cinema with his depictions, which bring to life the Hindu gods and goddesses. He must first find his muse who comes in the lavish form of Sugandha (Nandana Sen). Varma's fascination for his model turns into a torrid, paint-smeared, love affair, which is reflected in his art.

The religious power broker sees his increasingly eroticised work as dangerous and Varma is dragged to the British courts to be tried for blasphemy.

Mehta's homage offers not only a spectacular insight into a turning point in Indian history, but also questions the freedom of the artist in contemporary society. Not to be missed!

PRAKASH JHA TO REFUSES TO SHOW AARAKSHAN TO NATIONAL COMMISSION

The National Commission for Schedule Castes has asked for a screening of the film AARAKSHAN, to judge whether the film is suitable for release. However, filmmaker Prakash Jha has refused to have any special screening for the National Commission.

PrakashJha, "The laws of the country do not require me to show my film to any board or body, apart from the Censor Board.

"The Censor Board has been constituted to review films - rate them according to viewing suitability, and address any other concerns related to the release of the film. The Censor Board is the only body that needs to see the film. Once the film is submitted for censorship, it's up to the Censor Board, who they want to incorporate into the preview committee. It is the prerogative of the Censor Board, if it wants to involve any other body of people for advice.

"I am not required to respond to any board of people, who want to sit in judgment over my film. As a filmmaker, who has been making films for about 30 years, I am well aware of the procedure I have to follow to get the clearances for the release of the film. I will be following the due procedure.

"AARAKSHAN is a film about the ramifications of the reservation policy and the commercialization of education as seen through the experiences of a particular group of people. It explores various sides of the issue, through various characters. My intention has been to provide a fair and balanced comment on the issue.

"The film is releasing on the independence day weekend, so we have enough time to go to the Censor Board for the censor certificate."

KARAN JOHAR TO MAKE K3G SEQUEL

Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is planning to make a sequel of its decade old blockbuster home production, KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM.

Karan's plans for bringing back 'The Raichand' family on big screen are finally coming true.

In 2001, KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM was a super hit, worldwide, with a business of Rs.200cr ($20 million). This was the first ever Bollywood movie to get a theatrical release in Germany (with German subtitles) and later on, it went on to getting dubbed in the German language.

On being asked by a friend about a sequel to his runaway hit K3G, Karan at first took it lightly and laughed it off. He thought it's financially impractical and most importantly, it's not a great idea for a film in the current age and days.

But when Senior AB gave thumbs up to the idea stating that 'sequel was not only possible but also desirable and only Karan can do it,' Karan couldn't say a 'No'!

Karan then admitted, 'It's a workable idea. I am no longer averse to it. It would be a bold step if I make it.' He further added, 'It's very strange. But all the six main members of the cast are as dear to me now as they were 10 years ago when I made the film. I'm sure they're as charged about the sequel as I am.'

KING KHAN, SHAHRUKH IN DON 2

If DON - THE CHASE BEGINS was deadly expect its sequel, DON 2 to be deadliest! Atleast this is what the first trailer promises to be. The King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan returns as the deadliest and dangerous don in DON 2.

The trailer is a must watch for Shahrukh's grungy look, his trademark style, the way he flaunts 'D' tattoo lights cigar, the stylised action sequences and stunts and the corny dialogues mouthed by Don himself. The slickest shots, the pacy remix of prequel's version and with superstar's presence - the film is already giving a feel of blockbuster!

Like its first part, DON 2 has been written and directed by Farhan Akhtar. The music is given by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy.

If you thought its easy to do do away with DON, then indeed its not. As the
Don is back to settle his scores. As he rightly says in the film Ab mujhe koi nahi rok sakta.

Truly DON ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi naamunkin hai!
