NEW MOVIE - "3 THAY BHAI"

Having been produced by the director of socially relevant films like Rang De Basanti (2006) and Delhi 6 (2009), 3 Thay Bhai automatically bears the burden of being a stunner in its own right, in its own genre. But does having a heavyweight producer behind you relieve you of the responsibility to entertain? Of course not.

From the initial looks of it, 3 Thay Bhai could just as easily have been one of those comic low-budget gems like last year's Phas Gaye Re Obama. But don’t get your hopes too high just yet.

Chicksy Gill (Puri) is the eldest of the Gills, a condescending, self-important Punjabi businessman struggling to find matches for his out-of-shape daughters. Happy Gill is a dentist who blames “shifting pain” for any oral problem, while Fancy Gill, as the name suggests, leads a wannabe, flashy lifestyle, kept alive by dreams of going to Hollywood “shahar”. Needless to say, the three don’t get along and are better off not having anything to do with one another.

As fate would have it, however, the lure of a fortune promised by Dadaji Chhatrapal Gill’s will forces the brothers to live in harmony. Three years after grandpa’s death is when they can get their hands on the property in Himachal Pradesh.

For a comedy to be enjoyable, a smart story and slick, funny dialogue are imperative. The comic timing of characters can do a world of wonders to any film of this genre. Unfortunately, in the case of 3 Thay Bhai, apart from Talpade’s bang-on comic timing, everything and everybody else fall flat. A few chuckles here and there do not guarantee a two-and-a-half hour journey of fun and frolic.

Too many loose ends, a patchy storyline, and unnecessary additions to the plot make this pseudo comedy a sore watch. The story meanders from the farms of Punjab to the snowed-down peaks of North India, adding unnecessary elements along the way.

First-time director Mrigdeep Singh Lamba manages to extract satisfactory performances which constitute the saving grace of the film. While Puri hams his way throughout, Talpade manages to elicit a few chuckles because of his fantastic comic timing. Dobriyal, (seen recently in films like Daayen Ya Baayen and Tanu Weds Manu), is a natural and plays the timid quack with poise. Khanna’s village-belle act looks more like an afterthought though the girl manages to impress in a blink-and-you-miss appearance.

To cut a long story short, you won’t miss much if you skip this tepid tale of three brothers. 3 Thay Bhai has no comedy, no entertainment, and nothing much to look forward to.

CHARLIE SHEEN IN TORONTO

Continuing his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is not an Option” tour, Charlie Sheen was seen in Toronto, Canada.

The “Hot Shots” stud took a smoke break out on the fire escape of Massey Hall, joined by his goddesses at one point.

Sheen got mixed reviews for his gig last night, with TMZ writing, “The crowd inside is loving Sheen’s act.”
Still, Globe & Mail columnist Lynn Crosbie wrote, "This is getting so ugly! Crowd so drunk so brain damaged cannot hear timid in comparison Sheen. Sheen is Mr Rogers compared to crowd. What happened to polite Canada?"

SALMAN KHAN IN "READY"

Salman Khan mania is all set to hit you as he is 'back to bang'! After WANTED and DABANGG, expectations are high from his upcoming film, "READY". And if the promo is anything to go by, it looks like a fun ride, full of masala.

The promo, starring the quintessential Salman, is high on dance, romance, masti, and action. Salman is seen doing some crazy dance steps, which have the potential of becoming a rage. He is also mouthing some kick-ass dialogues, the best of them being 'Zindagi mein 3 cheez kabhi underestimate nahin karna- I, me and myself'. Salman's love interest in the film, Asin is looking gorgeous as ever.

The theatrical also has a peppy Dhinkachaka song playing in the background. It shows how Sallu bhai is fighting for his pyaar.

Directed by Annes Bazmee, READY is the remake of a successful Telegu film of the same name. It also stars Paresh Rawal, Arya Babbar and Mahesh Manjrekar in supporting roles.

The promotional campaign of READY has begun on a high note and the buzz will surely get stronger as the June 3 release date comes closer. Make sure you get 'ready' soon!

DEMI LOVATO - "I WANTED TO START MY LIFE OVER"

At last, Demi Lovato opened up about her personal struggle with the pressure to be perfect and dished the real reasons why she decided to seek outside treatment.

The 18-year-old disclosed intimate details of the emotional and physical issues she's dealt with in the May issue of "Seventeen" magazine, telling, "I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, 'You need to get some help.' It was an intervention."

The Disney star also revealed what led her to finally seek treatment, saying, "I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over."

You can overcome and get through anything."

SALMAN AND SHAHRUKH STILL AVOID EACH OTHER

Bollywood’s famous Khans – Salman and Shah Rukh are like two grouchy boys, who try to avoid each other despite shooting not more than a couple of meters away.

Apparently, there was an obvious anxiety in the air yesterday evening at Filmistan Studios, Mumbai where SRK and Salman were shooting for their respective films.

Interestingly, the units on both the sets expected an altercation of sorts that never took place because SRK-Salman kept to their vans.

Talking to a daily, a source said, “Salman has been shooting for Atul and Alvira Agnihotri`s ‘Bodyguard’ for the last few days in Filmistan on the the third floor. SRK began shooting on the first floor. Sallu was shooting a crucial scene and so SRK`s entry had everyone on the ‘Bodyguard’ sets on tenterhooks.”

It is a known fact that two actors haven`t made their peace ever since they had an ugly spat at Katrina`s birthday bash three years ago.

“It was all fun for the ‘Bodyguard’ unit and the shoot was moving along smoothly. SRK`s visit made them go into a tense huddle though shooting continued as normally as before. No-one knew how Salman would react to his dushman being in the vicinity.”

"SRK would leave his van and just go to the studio and shoot as would Salman, who is otherwise known to sit outside his van chatting with his friends and people who drop in to meet him. The ‘Bodyguard’ unit finally heaved a sigh of relief after Shah Rukh left around midnight,” finally added the source.

KATE HUDSON - PREGNANT BRAZILIAN BIKINI BABE

Showing off her baby bump, Kate Hudson was seen having a blast in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil yesterday afternoon.

Joined by her boyfriend/babydaddy Matthew Bellamy and his Muse bandmate Dominic Howard, the “Fool’s Gold” gal did some kayaking during breaks from working on her tan.

Kate and Matthew have been an item since last spring, and Hudson says she’s happy with the way things are.

"I don't feel it necessary to get married. I am 31, I already have one child, and have had one divorce, so it is not necessarily the golden ticket. I just want to be happy."

AMITABH CRACKED JOKE ON SOUTH SUPERSTAR, RAJNIKANTH

Amitabh Bachchan cracked a pleasing tongue-in-cheek joke on south superstar Rajnikanth on his Twitter page. But this hasn’t gone down well with certain people.

Big B wrote: “Someone sent me this on mobile – “When Graham Bell discovered the telephone, he found two missed calls from Rajnikant !!” Brilliant.”

Soon, the superstar corrected the minor mistake and wrote: “Ok ! Graham Bell ‘invented’ the telephone … not ‘discovered’ as written earlier .. in Rajni joke .. !!! Apologies !!”

But the joke wasn’t well-received by fans in Twitter world, some of whom actually got quite angry.
Big B then clarified, “Not making fun of him …praising his status and his greatness ..he is noble successful humble person , and revered like a God.”

Big B and Rajnikanth are close friends, of course, and have worked together in the past. Do you think Big B’s joke was in good humor or bad taste?
