ZEE CINE AWARDS 2011
Recognising true talent in cinema, the Zee Cine Awards held last night awarded Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai the leading awards in Best Actor (Male) and Best Actor (Female) categories for their film ‘Guzaarish’. And even though Salman Khan’s film ‘Dabangg’ grabbed maximum awards, the actor failed to bag a single trophy as the Best Actor (Popular Choice) was bagged by his foe Shah Rukh for ‘My Name is Khan’.
As for Dabangg, the film won Best Film, Best Debut Female to Sonakshi Sinha, Best Debutant Director to Abhinav Kashyap, Best Song to Munni Badnaam Hui and Best Music to Sajid-Wajid.
The Zee Cine Awards, the largest people’s choice awards has always lived up to its image of being the truest platform for awarding deserving candidates and the 2011 edition of awards was no different.
Ecstatic over winning the best actor award, Hrithik Roshan said, “This movie is very special to me because of its message. It is the suffering, weaknesses, and misery in our life that become the wind beneath our wings.”
Aishwarya Rai thanked her mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali and said, “This is a very special film for me. I’ve always had career milestones with Sanjay’s movies – from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ to ‘Devdas’ and now ‘Guzaarish’.”
The Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and talented actress Vidya Balan won the awards for the Best Actor and Actress in popular choice category for their films ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Ishqiya’ respectively.
Vidya was at her wittiest best after she received the award. The pretty actress said, "If I’d known that swearing, shooting a gun, and having an affair with two men would get me an award, I would have done it five years ago.”.”
SRK looked idealistic while receiving the award and said, "I promise everyone here that I will work very, very hard and make sure that... at the end of my life and at the end of my career, I am deserving of all that you have given me.”
Karan Johar won the Best Director Award in the popular award category for SRK starrer ‘My Name Is Khan’, while filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane won the Best Director Award adjudicated by the Jury.
The star studded evening held in Singapore saw the Bollywood bigwigs set the stage on fire. SRK, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone and handsome hunk Arjun Rampal sizzled with their performances.
Shah Rukh asked Hrithik and his wife Suzanne to get to the stage and made the ‘Guzaarish’ star dance to ‘Sajda’.
Priyanka Chopra too had put up a brilliant show by introducing each of the Best Film nominees by enacting characters from the films.
Akshay Kumar, the host for the evening was accompanied by director Sajid Khan. The superstar kickstarted the ceremony by taking potshots at himself. He requested the audience to maintain a minute’s silence to pay condolence to his film ‘Action Replayy’ which proved to be a dud at the Box Office.
The actor-director duo did not spare anyone. They cracked jokes at hotties Katrina Kaif for her Hindi accent and Deepika Padukone for her choice of airlines.
The starry evening was one of its kinds and an event worth treasuring.
