SUNNY DEOL TURNS 54 TODAY


Today, Sunny Deol turns 54 who born on 19 October 1956 and worked in film industry as an actor, producer and director. His father Dharmendra is also a Indian actor. He has won two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards.

EARLY LIFE:-

Sunny is the first son of actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur. He is the elder brother of actor, Bobby Deol. He has two sisters, Vijeyta and Ajita, and two half sisters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol from his father's second marriage to actress Hema Malini. Actor Abhay Deol is his cousin. He is married to Pooja Deol with whom he has two children.

CAREER:-

Sunny Deol has starred mainly in action movies. He had a successful debut with his home production Betaab in 1983. He went through a lean phase for a couple of years until Arjun (1985). What followed were a bunch of hits in Paap Ki Duniya (1988), Tridev (1989), Chaalbaaz (1989), Vishwatma (1992), Vardi, Ghayal, etc. His defining moment as an actor came with another home production Ghayal, a film that won him the National award along with the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor. He was critically acclaimed for his hit movie Dacait which was directed by Rahul Rawail. Yateem is another movie which shows his capability as an actor.

Sunny gave huge hits through the 1990s in Ghayal (1990), Narsimha (1991), Vishwatma (1992), Lootere (1993), Damini (1993), Darr (1993). His supporting actor role of a drunk lawyer in "Damini" (1993) fetched him all the awards & accolades in Bollywood. However his performance in Darr (1993) was not well received by critics and audiences alike leaving Shahrukh Khan to win overwhelming praise for his performance as the psychotic villain of the film. In the mid nineties he delivered five big hits in a row - Jeet (1996), Ghatak (1996), Ajay (1996), Ziddi (1997) & Border (1997).

Deol's biggest blockbuster till date came in the year 2001, with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Among his last few movies Apne (2007) & Heroes (2008) have done well in box office.

AS A DIRECTOR:-


As a director, Deol's maiden outing was unsuccessful at the box office. Deol made his directorial debut with Dillagi (1999) starring himself, friend Syed Kafait Ali and his younger brother Bobby Deol and Urmila Matondkar. Deol's next directorial venture is The Man (2009), which is an action packed film and also stars Shilpa Shetty.
